Worldwide star Madonna is rumoured to be the first of many big names to perform on this year's X Factor, according to tabloid reports. The American singer is due to kick off the live shows with a new comeback track on October 9 after the final 12 perform for the very first time.

A source told The Mirror: "Madonna would be perfect to kick-off the last stage of the competition."

According to the paper, show boss Simon Cowell is hoping to attract big, current popstars to this year's show, including US teenager Justin Bieber.

A show source explained: "Simon wants only the best and most current stars appearing on the show this year.

"As well as getting music legends like Elton John on board, he also wants to bring in Justin Bieber and Pixie Lott because he knows that's who the younger viewers really want to see."

She has been a constant presence at boyfriend Lewis Hamilton's Formula One races.

But Nicole Scherzinger has never been needed as much as she was today, when she comforted her beau following his disappointing result in the Singapore Grand Prix.

The 32-year-old Pussycat Dolls star - who has recently been showing off her talents as a judge on The X Factor - looked solemn as she watched Hamilton crash out in a dramatic collision with rival Mark Webber.

The pair had earlier looked happy and excited as they arrived at the Marina Bay circuit for the race, and Nicole, who wore a sparkly top and black trousers, insisted on taking some pictures of Hamilton in the pit before the start of the race.

Following the collision with Webber, Hamilton admitted, somewhat begrudingly, that the incident was down to something that often happens on the track.

He said: 'That's motor racing. I'm not going to blame Mark. He was fortunate to come out of it without problems and I guess I was just unlucky.

She was named the 'new SuBo' when she first auditioned and quickly became one of the favourites to win The X Factor.

But 50-year-old Tesco checkout worker Mary Byrne might have fallen at the first hurdle after struggling with a complex dance routine on the first boot camp episode of the show.

As she started to learn the dance routine, choreographed by creative director Brian Friedman, Mary started to lose confidence in her ability to perform the routine.

And it wasn't only her lack of confidence that caused her to doubt herself before she went on stage, as her arthritis in her knees was also giving her some trouble.

Mary said at the beginning of learning the routine: 'I had forgotten how amazing it is to do exercise - how electrifying it makes you feel inside.'

But then the repetitive dance moves started to get a bit too much for Mary, who suffers from arthitis in her knees.

She said: 'My knees are starting to swell, my legs are seizing on me and the weight doesn't help. I'm not looking for excuses and I feel like I'm letting myself down.

'I want to try and dance for the judges. I refuse to be beaten by arthitis - I really am going to give it a try.'

And while she struggled to remember the dance steps as soon as she got on the stage, Mary just gave it her all with her own unique moves.

It is an exclusive cul-de-saq filled with millionaires who value their peace and privacy.

So it would come as no surprise that the inhabitants of a North London close are less than happy after discovering their new neighbours are the rowdy X Factor finalists.

The 12 finalists – whose identities are being kept a closely-guarded secret by ITV bosses – have already moved into the sprawling £3.5 million mansion ahead of the first live show on October 9.

But now the property is swarming with production workers and camera crew, with a procession of cars and taxis streaming in and out all day long.

And residents now fear their tranquil neighbourhood will be transformed by the arrival of fans desperate to catch a glimpse of the contestants on the hit talent show.

X Factor producers have hired two security guards to watch over the property and the cul-de-sac. However, like many other upmarket roads in London, the neighbours may even call in their own private security presence.

One source told the Daily Mail: 'The residents are upset as there is already some disruption with camera crews coming and going – and the live shows have not even started yet.

'This is a very exclusive and private road and people are worried that fans will swarm the close once they find out the finalists are here.

'They are really worried after last year when the X Factor moved in next to the Chinese Ambassador and hundreds of fans turned up and caused chaos.'
