Simon Cowell has insisted he is not quitting the British X Factor - after revealing he is on the brink of signing a fresh multi-million pound deal with ITV.

The multi-millionaire, 50, had prompted fears he was set to leave the UK version of the hit talent show to concentrate on the new American series of the X Factor.

However, the outspoken star denied this today, as he revealed the X Factor will likely be off screen for a year and launch on air in January 2012. As well as this, Britain's Got Talent will be moved to next autumn – and will have a longer run.

Cowell said: 'We have a contract to put X Factor on in America next year, which we are committed to.

'And what we now have to look at is how much time we have got to make both shows, because I've got less time, so we are thinking about moving X Factor into a different time of the year and Britain's Got Talent to a different time.

'I've been reassured by ITV that we have got all the money we need to make them better, if I think they are going to be better.

Overworked: Cowell said he needed vitamin injections to keep on top of his workload

'If I think they're going to be better, we're going to carry on making them and we're very close to announcing a long term deal with ITV for both shows.'

Cowell told Radio 2 DJ Steve Wright the X Factor could run next year 'if a couple of things can be moved'. But he said he preferred a plan to screen it in January 2012, adding: 'I think putting it in a different time slot might be good.'

Previous X Factor contestants have jetted to Los Angeles, Morocco and Italy.

But this year, those hopefuls who found themselves in Cheryl Cole's category travelled to the less-than-glamorous location of Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset for the judges' houses round.

However, while the contestants may have been slightly upset about missing out on a trip abroad, they were living in luxury inside the £4.5million Emporio property, which boasts five en-suite bedrooms and a cinema as well as stunning seaside viewers across Poole Harbour.

The Emporio mansion is one of seven superhomes built by Seven Developments and is currently on sale for a staggering £4.5million.

It was decided earlier this year that Cheryl would remain in the UK for the judges' houses after suffering from a case of malaria which left her inhospital.

After contracting the disease while on holiday in Tanzania, Cheryl was seen falling ill during one of the auditions at The X Factor, during which she ended up sleeping on the sofa.

She was quickly taken to hospital to be treated for the illness and, following her scare, X Factor bosses opted to keep the fragile star in England for judges' houses

the x factor simon cowell launches spin-off pop magazine

Just when you thought The X Factor  couldn't get any bigger, along comes another offshoot of the Syco and Fremantle talent show. On Wednesday a spin-off magazine will be launched.

Fully funded by Syco and Fremantle, X magazine was conceived before Christmas when Simon Cowell and the publishing director Natasha Sundharawipata discussed giving the X Factor brand a different edge via a music weekly. Sundharawipata was charged with bringing it into being, and Haymarket Network, Haymarket Media Group's agency arm, was hired to publish it.

Simon Kantle, Haymarket's editorial director, says: "The editorial team has been encouraged to be challenging and controversial", adding that "if Grazia is the weekly that loves fashion, we're the weekly that loves pop music".

The editor is Peter Robinson, formerly the outspoken editor of popjustice.com, who was concerned when approached that it would be "pretty much a glorified fan magazine". But Kantle convinced him that the owners were happy for X to "not always toe the party line". As evidence he points to a feature listing pop's top ten Auto-tune moments: "If we just did a load of press releases, readers would notice."

The magazine will be sold exclusively in Tesco at first. Some will see the launch as risky in an already overcrowded magazine market, particularly in the women's sector – and the last high-profile pop mag, based on Channel 4's Popworld, was axed in 2007 after one issue.
