She can usually be found wearing sexy, risqué outfits as she struts her stuff on stage.

But last night Alexandra Burke decided to go for a more feminine look as she celebrated her 22nd birthday at the Kensington Roof Gardens.

The singer looked stunning in the low-cut fuschia dress, which clung to her curves and flattered her figure.

Clutching a beaded bag, Alexandra smiled widely as she arrived at the prestigious venue to mark her special day.

The event also marks a short break for workaholic Alexandra, and one she had clearly been looking forward to.

Writing on her Twitter page earlier in the day, Alexandra told fans: 'Dear Mother Nature, Please do not rain 2night It's a rather special day 2day it's still my Bday celebrations& I want2have this BBQ.ThankU x'

She later added: 'Need to get ready4 my BBQ Party.. How has the weather been guys ? X'

Alexandra arrived at London's Heathrow Airport yesterday afternoon ahead of the party, and used her T-shirt to pay tribute to R'n'B singer Aaliyah, who was killed in a plane crash on August 25th, 2001.

Meanwhile, Alexandra revealed she has been asked to be perform on the Australian version of The X Factor.

Is X Factor a singing contest?

Most people who watch The X Factor assume they are tuning into a singing competition.

So how much of ITV's 75-minute show contains singing? Fifty minutes? Forty? Actually, just ten.

Let's break down last Saturday's show: around 15 minutes was taken up by adverts.

But that should still mean plenty of singing. Wrong!

The longest performance, at two minutes and three seconds, was by Mary Byrne - dubbed 'the new Susan Boyle'.

But the programme spent almost the same length of time on Mary's 'sob story' background.

More than 15 minutes was spent detailing the family backgrounds of other contestants, which makes one wonder whether it is really a talent show or just a contest for the best hard luck story.

Actually, it's a battle between the judges' egos.

By far the biggest proportion - 25 minutes - of last week's show centred on Cheryl, Simon, Louis and guest Katy Perry.

X Factor 2010: Mary Byrne failed to sell records

She has been nicknamed the new SuBo after stepping out of Tesco and wowing The X Factor judges, but it seems Mary Byrne has already had a shot at fame.

It has been revealed that the 50-year-old Tesco checkout worker won a TG4 Irish TV singing contest and a recording deal two years ago.

The TV talent contest named Nollaig No 1, meaning Christmas number one, crowned Mary their winner but her debut single You'll Never Walk Alone only sold 19 copies in its first week of release.

Her failed efforts in Ireland, may now make X Factor judges skeptical of her record selling abilities, if she is to advance in the ITV1 talent show.

The Dubliner, who quit singing at 28 because of 'low self-esteem', returned to perform pub gigs in 2005 to give her musical career another shot.

TG4 producer Tom Evans spoke to the Mirror about Mary's efforts in the contest and said: 'She was very nervous when she appeared on our show.

'She really lacked confidence in her ability.  If nothing else, winning the contest gave her belief in herself.

'She's had a tough life and I hope she goes far.  I think she will do really well if she goes to the live shows.'

Miss Byrne tried her luck for a second shot at fame on Saturday night's X Factor by belting out a note-perfect version of Dame Shirley Bassey's I Who Have Nothing.

Her unassuming appearance and manner prompted her to be compared to chart sensation Susan Boyle, who shot to fame from Britain's Got Talent.

Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and guest judge Katy Perry were all amazed at Mary's talent and Cheryl said she brought 'incredible power and emotion' to her performance.

Cheryl Cole rehearses for four hours at an LA dance studio

After an extended break, whether it be a holiday or illness, most of us tend to drag our feet when heading back to work.

But as she hopped out of her car and hot footed it into a dance studio in LA yesterday, it was obvious how excited Cheryl Cole is to be back doing what she loves.

Despite only getting the all-clear from doctors after her malaria battle four weeks ago, the singer has eagerly returned to work, already laying down new material at a recording studio last week.

And dressed in a low-key yet stylish outfit of black harem trousers, green T-shirt, leather jacket and heels, with a black cap pulled over her eyes, Cheryl practically ran through the doors of the dance studio yesterday.

Before jetting out to LA, the 27-year-old spoke to Simon Cowell and assured him that 'she was going out to rest, recuperate, gain some weight and hang out in the sun away from the glare of photographers,' a source told Closer magazine last week.

Doctors instructed her to reduce her hectic schedule until her return to judging duties on the X Factor in October, but Cheryl has reportedly recorded a new single which she plans to perform on the second X Factor live show.

The video for the single is also expected to be filmed in the next week, which explains Cheryl's gruelling four-hour dance rehearsal.

She has also reportedly been working out in the gym of her hotel, running on the treadmill and doing crunches.

X Factor 2010: Simon Cowell would not ban ‘prostitute’ Chloe Mafia

Simon Cowell will allow a prostitute to compete on The X Factor.

The 50 year-old said people from any walk of life should be given a chance to win the show.

Quizzed on contestant Chloe Mafia, who was revealed to be a £160-an-hour escort, he said the show was 'open to everyone'

He added: 'We haven't banned prostitutes. We can't just take people off the show because they might do something that upsets some people.

'If a person applies to be on the X Factor it's obvious to me that they want to do something better with their life.'

The show's executive producer Richard  Holloway said: 'There is no reason why she shouldn't be allowed. She wouldn't be able to be a prostitute while she's doing the show obviously.'

The pair's comments again raises questions about whether the show is exploitative of those most vulnerable.

Miss Mafia, who is just 20 and has a 19 month old daughter, was exposed in a newspaper sting as selling adult services under the name 'Candy' on an escort website.
